Norway Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Oslo, Norway

Arrive in Oslo, Norway, private transfer to your hotel, right in the heart of Oslo. At 2:30 p.m. meet your guide in the lobby of your hotel for an afternoon visiting the Viking Ship Museum with its displays of ancient Viking ships and the nearby polar ship, Fram, used by polar explorers Nansen and Amundsen on their respective expeditions to the North and South Poles.

Day 2: Oslo

Meet your guide today at 10:30 a.m. to tour Akershus Castle and the Resistance museum. Catch Oslo's Tram 1 to the end, then take a short hike for lunch at Frognerseteren Hoved. Enjoy your hike and the magnificent views of the city. This afternoon you are on your own to relax or explore.

Day 3: Flåm

Take a taxi to the train station for the 10:33 a.m. train from Oslo to Myrdal. Then, board the famous Flam Mountain Railway down to the Sogne Fjord. The train journey provides some of Norway's wildest and most magnificent scenery. On the 20 km-long train ride you can see rivers cut through deep ravines, waterfalls cascade down the side of steep, snow-capped mountains and mountain farms clinging dizzily to sheer slopes.

Day 4: Flåm

Today, take a hike on the ancient Aurland Trail in a remote and rugged area — often referred to as Norway’s Grand Canyon — where waterfalls, rivers and wildflowers compose some of the country’s most dramatic scenery. At 5:00 p.m. meet your guides at the harbor area of Flåm, right in front of Fretheim Hotel. Go on a Fjord Safari. Experience the beautiful and dramatic Nærøyfjorden World Heritage Area from your safe and sturdy RIB-boat. Enjoy a spectacular view of Bakkasundet and Gudvangen.

Day 5: Bergen

Take the 6:00 a.m. ferry from Flam to Bergen, arriving at 11:40 a.m. Pick up and pay for ferry tickets at ticket window with your reservation number. You will cross the Sognefjord – the longest and deepest fjord in the world. Take a taxi to your hotel and have lunch. At 3:00 p.m. meet you guide and enjoy a private 3-hour guided tour of Bergen, including visits to the popular Fish & Flower Market, the ancient Maria Church, Hanseatic Quarter, old Bergen Harbor and other famous sights. You will also experience a ride on the funicular railway to Mt. Fløien for breathtaking views of the city and fjord far below.

Day 6: Bergen

Enjoy this morning in Bergen at your leisure. At 1 p.m. take the free bus service that leaves from across the street from the Tourist Information Centre in Bergen one hour before the concert starts and returns after the concert. The concert is held at the Edvard Grieg Museum. Troldhaugen is not only an artist’s residence, but one of the most important and frequently used venues in Norway for classical music.

Day 7: Balestrand

At 10:00 a.m. your guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Voss, to see Tvindefoss Waterfall. Continue across the Vika Mountains to Vangsness for the short ferry crossing crossing to the beautiful resort of Balestrand. From the village centre of Balestrand you can follow footpaths through the woods and fields and up into the mountains. Dinner and overnight at Kvikne's Hotel, one of Norway's finest hotels, superbly located in private grounds on the banks of the fjord and surrounded by mountains.

Day 8: Briksdal glacier and Leon

Take the 8:30 a.m. ferry from Balestrand to Fjærland. Pick up and pay for ferry tickets at ticket window with your reservation number. At 11:30 a.m. at Fjærland port you will meet your driver and guide for a transfer from Fjærland to Briksdal glacier for an afternoon glacier walk, including lunch. Continue to Loen to check into Hotel Alexandra at 5:30 p.m.

Day 9: Geiranger Fjord

Leaving the hotel at 10:00 a.m. with your guide and driver for Hellesylt, you will take the the ferry along the Geiranger Fjord with lunch at the Union Hotel in Geiranger. Leaving Geiranger you will visit very beautiful Dalsnibba and see Geiranger from the top. Returning to Loen crossing the Stryn Mountain road to Stryn Summerskicenter. You will have the opportunity to relax in the Alexandra Bath and Spa before dinner. This is a lovely day excursion with your driver and guide.

Day 10: Geiranger - Lillehammer - Oslo

At 9:30 a.m. meet your guide at your hotel for your day of driving and guiding back to Oslo. More magnificent scenery is yours today, as your tour crosses first the Grotli Mountains to Lom, then following Lake Vågå, descends the majestic Gudbrands Valley, renowned for its old farmsteads and beautiful river, to the world-famous town of Lillehammer for lunch. After lunch visit the Olympia Park, before continuing alongside Lake Mjøsa, to arrive back in Oslo during the early evening.

Day 11: Fly Home

9:00 a.m. Private transfer from your hotel to the airport.
